Some of life’s richest moments happen around the table; we celebrate, we discuss, we love, we grieve. Tavolo, Tavola explores the fluctuating gender dynamics associated with the word which, in Italian, changes depending on its state: tavolo, the masculine, referring simply to the object itself, and tavola, the feminine, when set or otherwise prepared for a meal.

Fascinated by the implications of this linguistic shift the following images seek to question the idiosyncrasies of language through photographic observation. Images of set tables evoke feelings of anticipation and curiosity for what's to come. On the other hand, empty tables, and those captured after a meal, consider the remnants of shared experience to prompt reflection on the cultural importance of communal dining.
